Youtube Red: the new subscription service

Youtube Red

A couple of months ago, we talked about a new Youtube feature that allows users to pay a monthly subscription fee to remove all ads. Although it was still in the talks at the time, it finally came to life and Youtube recently announced its new baby “Youtube Red”. In this article we’ll dig deeper into the new video service and the improved features that come with it.

The new subscription costs $9.99/month for Android, desktop, and the mobile Web, but $12.99/month if purchased on Apple’s in-app purchasing on iOS to cover Apple’s in-app purchase tax. What does Youtube Red offer?

Ad-Free Playback

Ads are often an unpleasant site. Waiting 5 seconds before a video has been a very common practice amongst video lovers. Given that, Youtube Red uped the ante by creating a distraction-free video experience with no interruptions or pop-ups.

Offline Play

Subscribers will have the ability to save a video offline to be watched later. This would definitely come in handy in areas with slow internet connection and would save a lot of mobile internet usage.

Play Videos In the Background of Any Mobile Device

As you probably know, if you exit Youtube on mobile, the video or song stops playing automatically making it impossible to multitask. Youtube Red however, comes with a unique feature that allows subscribers to play any video on the background of any mobile device.

The new service will be out on October 28 in the US and soon after in other countries.

Youtube Red

Although Youtube Red comes with intriguing benefits, asking users to pay for a service that’s been completely free for around a decade is hard to swallow. Will you subscribe to the new service?
