Best animation movies: wezank’s pick

The weekend is coming up, well, for us at least. And we’re just so excited to sit on the couch and binge watch. No, we’re not that lazy, but we just love movies. In case you’re planning on doing the same, here’s our pick for the best animation movies ever!

Toni’s pick

Tom and Jerry: The Two Mouseketeers

A classic for Toni, with its wittiness, and scene composition during the sword fight. Clever. In fact, a four adventures in the Mouseketeers series was created; the second of the tetralogy, 1954’s Touché, Pussy Cat! received an Oscar nomination!

South park. Jesus vs Santa short

This short is one of Toni’s favourites as well, because this version of The Spirit of Christmas features an animation style very similar to that of the eventual South Park series. Let’s not forget about the hilarious story-line, strong language, graphic violence and a ‘moral’ at the end.

Tania’s pick

Spirited away for Hayio Myazaki. Tania’s favourite. The story, the message, and the subtle animation leave you hooked from beginning to end.

The nightmare before Christmas. A work of art, and pure genius. It has everything: songs, laughs, and a little romance. In short, The Nightmare Before Christmas does what it intends to: entertain, yet showcases a detailed technique in the execution.

Stephany’s pick

Princess Mononoke

Quoting Steph: ” The visuals are breathtaking, the animation is amazing, the message is timeless.
The whole film is almost an animated poem. The cherry on top is that it’s from Studio Ghibli, which is the best thing I discovered in my life”
Despicable me

Come on: it’s funny and touching at the same time! …and who wouldn’t love to have a minion army mwaahahahahaaaa

Maya

The Little Mermaid (1989)

Toy Story (1995)
For Maya, both movies were groundbreaking for their time: ” I love the visual world that was created for the movies, as well as the music and songs for each.”

Paola

WALL-E
Because it’s a heartwarming, and a post-apocalyptic love-story, surprisingly dark, with biting social commentary (obesity, commercialism, environmentalism).
Paola adds: ” Pixar is one of the best things to ever happen to cinema.”
AKIRA
One of the greatest animated movies of all time made in 1988 with no CGI
Everything in the movie is unique, and you might need to watch the movie twice to fully understand what exactly is going on.

Pascale

Heidi’s song
A childhood memory for Pascale. Close to the heart, with its beautiful plot, memorable characters, and catchy song. Brace yourselves for some water works.
The little prince

“All grown-ups were once children…but only few of them remember it.” – Nothing more to add.

What are some of your favourite animated movies? We’re waiting for you to share. In the meantime, enjoy the popcorn!
