Whatsapp For Android: 3 major new features

Whatsapp for Android

How often have you fallen victim to not replying to a WhatsApp chat? Your friend texts you while you’re busy at work and you remember to reply late at night. Maybe your girlfriend sends you a heart emoticon but you’re busy with the guys and fail to recall. Rest assured, we totally understand and so does Whatsapp.

For all of you Android users, we’ve got some good news. The cross-platform mobile messaging app has introduced several new features to its app, the most anticipated being the ‘mark as unread’ feature. Being Apple users and all, we’re somewhat disappointed, but here are the 3 major new features added by Whatsapp for Android.

Whatsapp For Android New Features

According to Android Police, WhatsApp for Android has added several new updates in 24 hours. The new features will be available for version no. v2.12.194 and they are:

Mark as Unread:

As mentioned above, the feature allows users to mark a chat as unread by just tapping and holding any conversation. This won’t affect the read status on messages within each conversation nor will it change anything from the sender’s side. However, a green circle will be added to the selected chat on the receiver’s end.

Some new custom notifications settings for individual contacts or groups. The notification setting box allows you to mute any chat for 8 hours, 1 week, or even 1 year as well as select custom options for tones, vibration length, popup notification, and others.

Low Data Usage:

When there’s limited connectivity in certain locations or countries (This is not a pun anyway) you can switch on the new low data usage option for voice calls which lowers the amount of data used during a Whatsapp call.
