2015 Oscar Winners: the animation categories

Last Sunday, the 22nd of February, Hollywood hosted the 87th Academy Awards. While we enjoyed the show, speeches and performances, our main focus was on the animation section. In a previous post, we mentioned the nominees for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Animated Short Film. Now it’s time to announce the big 2015 Oscar winners in the animation categories.

Neil Patrick Harris was named host for the big event. Although his performance wasn’t all Legen.. wait for it..dary, he had his fun and, might we add, daring moments.

After winning the Golden Globes, “How to Train Your Dragon 2” became a favorite to pick up the big trophy for Best Animated Feature Film. The Oscars, however, had a different opinion.

The futuristic story of Hiro, his friends and robot Baymax won “Big Hero 6” the number 1 spot. The movie stared Ryan Potter as Hiro, Scott Adsit as Baymax, and the rest of their friends played by T.J. Miller, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr. and Genesis Rodriguez.

Don Hall’s acceptance speech along side co-director Chris Williams and Roy Conli was emotional and straight from the heart: “Once upon a time there was a freckle-faced little boy who told his mom and his dad that one day he was going to work at Walt Disney Animation, and they did something amazing — they supported him, and they believed in him”.
