Voice over: choosing the right one

Voice over

If you thought explainer videos meant creating animated characters and storyboards only, think again.

Another major element when crafting an explainer video is figuring out the right voice over to go along with it. In this blog post, we’ll go through 3 major elements we take into consideration when choosing a suitable voice over:

The Language

Pfff.. obviously! Right? As obvious as it is, we can’t but take it into consideration for the whole stages of the video production. The language to be used in the explainer video affects the content to be created as well as the script to be said. It’s not only about English or any other language, it also depends on the accent too. For example, some videos need a British accent while other an American one.

The Tone

What’s the tone of voice of your video? Is it funny, serious, casual? We always take this phase into consideration before choosing the right voice over actor or actress. A funny explainer video needs a certain tone of voice, usually a high pitch, humorous one. A serious one, for instance, could use a low-pitched voice over.

The Brand

Last but not least, of course, the brand. Brands work for years to built a specific identity and character that we need to always keep in mind and work accordingly. For example, while working on Donner Sang Compter‘s explainer video, we knew very well that the voice over needed to be more serious than others as this is an NGO and we’re explaining a serious cause.
