Online Radio Stations: Apple Music vs Spotify

Online Radio Stations

Apple announced at this year’s World Wide Developers Conference(WWDC) 2015 its new music streaming app, Apple Music. Beats co-founder and current Apple employee, Jimmy Iovine, said that Apple Music allows users to choose from over 30 million songs found on iTunes. As nice as this sounds, we can’t wonder what this means to other online radio stations, Spotify in particular.

Spotify

With a reported more than 20 million subscribers and more than 75 million active users, the Swedish-born service is definitely the market leader at the moment. As it announced, Spotify gains “one new subscriber every second.”

After Apple’s big announcement, Spotify’s Daniel Ek wasn’t impressed at all and had just one thing to say. The Tweet was later deleted but here’s a snapshot of when it happened:

As cool as his tweet might have looked, it’s hard to believe that Daniel EK and the Spotify team aren’t worried. Afterall, it is Apple but Tim Cook and his team shouldn’t treat their Swedish opponent lightly either.

Apple Music

Two reasons why other online radio stations should be worried of Apple:

  • The Name

Throughout the years, the tech giants have built millions of loyal customers that follow the brand no matter what. The word “Apple” by itself makes a lot of people shiver like school girls in a Justin Beiber concert.

  • The Resources

Infinite resources come alongside Apple. The tech giants have the best masterminds behind them to compete with anyone and anywhere in anything.

It’s a close battle between years of experience in the field and years of building a respected brand image. Apple Music? Spotify? Who will dominate the online music streaming world? We’ll wait and see. From now till then, let’s talk videos.
