5 things you should never say to a social media manager

Perhaps businesses have recognized the awesome value and benefits of social media marketing, but we’re hoping that you’re not one of those “Oh, you do social media?” kind of people. However, there’s a big chance that you are asking us these questions, so keep reading.

Do you actually get paid to sit on social media all day?

Yes. Not for the purpose of liking the viral picture of a cat drinking punch, but to actually monitor, listen and respond to users in a “social” way that cultivates leads and sales. Social media managers need to stay connected to compile reports that show the results of their efforts, and not the result of how many likes they received on their latest profile picture.

Is this social media thing a serious job?

Very. What’s not serious about reach, engagement, leads and sales? Social media allows you to get up close and personal with your audience, it can’t any more serious than that.

Your job is fun, I actually have to work all day long

Right. Because building a yearly content strategy happens overnight and is just a hoot! Social media managers need to continually grow their business’ fan base and identify how to allocate their budget with carefully selected content along with a specific call-to-action. Let the fun begin!

I can do your job,  I have many social media accounts!

To be fair we have no doubt that the majority of people who are active on social media have innate skills, but rare are those who can demonstrate the ability to map out a marketing strategy and then drive that strategy by testing and analyzing it or even think of proactive process for capturing customers online and responding accordingly. It takes an analytical approach, patience and a long term vision.
